CHRIS DRUCQUER: CertaPro

Brand championship embodies many things; you have to be a cheerleader, a protector, an innovator, a coach and most importantly, you have to live the brand. This is what Chris Drucquer has done consistently at CertaPro Painters, College Pro’s sister company, since the early 90’s. Most recently, he won the 2016 Brand Champion award from FirstService Brands.

Education: University of Pennsylvania, BASc, Engineering
Rookie Year: 1988 (turf: Doylestown)
Current Home: Chester Springs, PA

College Pro

In his freshman year, Chris went home for Thanksgiving and got a notice saying ‘Don’t Get a Job. Get a Business.’ He was intrigued by the challenge of it – even though he had another job offer that he knew would pay well. He decided to give it a shot, had fun with it, and had a successful year, and was awarded Rookie of the Year, too. He continued for three more years before graduating and considering his next steps…he was on track to become a general manager at College Pro, but instead, looked to our sister company CertaPro to become their third ever franchise owner.

CertaPro

“It sounds boring, but I find that the closer you follow the program, the better you do. When you’re starting to lead a larger team of painters and colour consultants and marketers and more, everything is easier when you follow the program of the company. You live the values and use the tools provided to you.” Chris sends his people to CertaPro events with the same values, culture and brand to embody throughout his entire business.

His Advice

“In my early years, I tried some new things, which was exciting, but 9 times out of 10 the ideas were a waste of time or money.” The number one piece of advice Chris could give? Follow the Program. “If you work hard and follow the program, it can be an extremely rewarding opportunity.”

Favourite College Pro Memory

“My favourite part goes back to August of my first year, realizing that I was in the running to become Rookie of the Year. Some people had dropped their game a bit, but I pushed harder, and then sprinted to the finish line”. Chris describes being awarded Rookie of the Year as the biggest accomplishment in his life up until that point, as well as the moment he really got that entrepreneurial bug. It changed the path to his entire life.

Interesting Tidbits

  • Chris and his wife Andrea have 7 children, aged between 10-16

  • One of his favourite parts about College Pro and CertaPro is the commeraderie and long-term friendships he's gotten out of it
