“College Pro had an indelible mark on my life both personally and professionally”, Anthony says.
Anthony met his wife and gained skills that set him up for a lifetime at College Pro. “When I started, it was a time in my life where I was in university with dead end summer jobs. I saw it as a way to reinvent myself, and I really threw myself into it. I’d never run a business before, or even lifted a paintbrush. It was daunting, but College Pro gave me so many skills that I’ve applied to my career.” Anthony decided to take advantage of the opportunities at College Pro when a friend of his saw success (“if he could do it, I knew I could do it”). He won Rookie of the Year in his first year, and Manager of the Year in his second. This led to a promotion to General Manager.
The Skills He Uses Today
The thing that Anthony was best at in his College Pro years was cold calling; a skill that makes him fearless in business. “There was nothing better than the thrill of getting a lead to do an estimate. I’ve been able to leverage the hell out of the skill in my career in many ways.” Anthony also developed incredibly strong interpersonal skills at College Pro. While the skills have been refined in the years since College Pro, they’ve been growing since the first summer he ran his own business.
Today, he is a partner at Odgers Berndtson, responsible for executive search, leadership assessment and interim management in the technology & professional services sectors. This was a big switch from the first stretch of his professional career, where Anthony had roles in consulting and in the tech world at Oracle, KPMG, IBM and Ernst & Young. Odgers Berndtson is a global leader in executive search (ranked #1 in Canada and #6 globally).
Anthony is currently working to achieve his Master’s Degree in Law at the University of Toronto
He has 3 teenagers at home
Anthony’s brother-in-law was a College Pro franchisee, which is how he met his wife
